Ukrainian drones have attacked a facility in western Siberia’s Tyumen region, local authorities said Monday afternoon, with independent media reporting that Russia’s largest petrochemical plant was struck.
Tyumen region Governor Alexander Moor confirmed that a fire broke out after several drones crashed into an industrial facility, though he did not identify the site by name. He also did not say whether there were any injuries.
Unverified reports suggested that drones targeted the ZapSibNeftekhim plant, part of the Sibur petrochemical giant in the city of Tobolsk, which is located around 2,200 kilometers (1,370 miles) from the border with Ukraine.
Videos shared on social media purportedly showed thick plumes of smoke rising above the petrochemical plant.
Ukraine, which said it struck two Russian oil refineries early on Monday, did not immediately claim responsibility for the attack in the Tyumen region.
