(Astra/Telegram)Ukrainian forces struck the Tobolskneftekhim petrochemical plant in Russia's Tyumen Oblast on Aug. 10, the General Staff said.An air raid alert was issued in Tyumen Oblast at around 1 p.m. local time amid a drone attack. Regional Governor Alexander Moor said around 4:40 p.m. that falling drones caused a fire at an industrial facility, but did not specify where the incident occurred.The damaged facility is located in the city of Tobolsk, about 2,200 kilometers (1,370 miles) from the Ukrainian-Russian border. The attack struck the plant's central gas fractionation unit, according to the General Staff.The unit processes 6.6 million tons of feedstock annually and produces materials considered critical to Russia's military-industrial complex, including butadiene, isobutylene, maleic anhydride, and MTBE, a high-octane oxygenate additive. These products are used to manufacture rocket fuel components, aviation fuel, composite materials for drones, and high-octane gasoline, the report read. The extent of the damage caused by the attack is still being assessed, the General Staff added.Earlier on Aug. 10, Ukrainian forces also struck another facility in Russia's oil industry, an oil refinery in Tatarstan, as Russian air defenses reportedly intercepted 456 drones overnight.The Ukrainian General Staff later confirmed the strike on the Taneco refinery, saying a fire was reported at the facility in Nizhnekamsk. The extent of the damage was not immediately clear.Ukraine regularly strikes military infrastructure deep inside Russia and in occupied territories as part of efforts to weaken Moscow's ability to continue waging its war.
