Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile says rapid urbanisation continues to increase demand for school placements, putting pressure on classrooms and education infrastructure.
Overcrowding, learner admissions challenges and classroom shortages remain among the most pressing concerns facing Gauteng's education system as rapid urbanisation continues to place schools under strain.
The issues were highlighted in the findings of Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile’s “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child” outreach programme, which gathered feedback from communities across the province.
According to the report, parents repeatedly raised frustrations about learner placements, overcrowded schools and insufficient classroom capacity.
“The outreach programme also confirmed that one of the greatest concerns confronting our communities is equitable access to quality education,” Maile said.
