Parents have been warned not to pay anyone promising to secure a place for their children at Gauteng public schools.
The warning comes as the Gauteng Department of Education prepares to open its 2027 online admissions process for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners next week. Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, announced that applications will open at 8am on Wednesday, August 5, and close at midnight on Friday, September 4.
Addressing concerns about corruption in the admissions process, Maile said the department would take a zero-tolerance approach against any official found soliciting bribes.
“If there’s any one of our employees who’s found to have taken a bribe claiming they can secure a school place, we will dismiss them and open criminal charges against them.”
He urged parents to report corruption to both the department and SAPS, warning against attempts to buy school placements.
