Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Lebogang Maile says more than 210,000 Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications were received within hours of the launch of the province's 2027 online admissions process.
More than 210,000 Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications were submitted within hours of the opening of Gauteng's 2027 Online Admissions System, underscoring continued public confidence in the province's digital school placement platform.
The Gauteng Department of Education announced on Wednesday that 210,055 applications had been received by midday after the system went live at 8am.
Gauteng MEC for Education, Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Lebogang Maile, said the strong response reflects the trust parents and guardians continue to place in the online admissions process.
"The system went live at 08:00 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, and by 12pm, the Gauteng Department of Education had already received 210 055 Grade 1 and Grade 8 applications, demonstrating the continued confidence that parents and guardians have in the Province's Online Admissions System," Maile said.
