BAGUIO CITY — Four passengers survived after an Elf truck carrying a load of chayote overturned and plunged into a ravine while traversing a waterlogged and rocky road in Benguet on Sunday (August 9).
The truck was transporting chayote from Belong at Barangay Ambassador in the farming town of Tublay to the Benguet Agri-Pinoy Trading Center (BAPTC) in Benguet Capital, La Trinidad, when it had difficulty proceeding uphill of a stony portion of the road that was inundated by strong runoff rainwater, according to the Tublay government account.

It said the vehicle reportedly became unstable due to its heavy load, tipped over and fell into a 50 to 100 meter-deep ravine. All four truck occupants were able to climb out of the ravine and reached a waiting shed that was about 250 meters away.
