HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, reported on August 9 that the life sentences of Mohammad Ali Amouri, Mokhtar Al-Boshokeh, and Jaber Al-Boshokeh, three political prisoners from Ramshahr, have been reduced to 25 years and one day. The three prisoners have been incarcerated for over 15 years.
According to HRANA, Mohammad Ali Amouri and Jaber Al-Boshokeh are currently serving their sentences in Sheiban Prison in Ahvaz. Mokhtar Al-Boshokeh was transferred from Sheiban Prison to Arak Prison in February of last year, where he remains held.
The three prisoners, members of the “Al-Hiwar” (Dialogue) Cultural and Artistic Institute in Ramshahr, were arrested in 2011. During proceedings in the Revolutionary Court, they were initially sentenced to death, though these sentences were later commuted to life imprisonment.
Their case stems from their activities with “Al-Hiwar,” an institution engaged in cultural initiatives in Ramshahr, located roughly 90 kilometers southeast of Ahvaz.
Two other members of the institution, Hashem Shabani Amouri and Hadi Rashedi, were also sentenced to death in the same case. Shabani Amouri, a poet, Arabic literature teacher, and master’s student in political science, along with Rashedi, a chemical engineer and high school teacher, were executed in February 2014.
