Leading quick service restaurant chains posted strong topline and same store sales growth on the back of increase in footfalls and focus on value offerings. Players said this growth came without any significant price hikes and expect the positive growth momentum to sustain in the upcoming festival months. In fact, for some players, June quarter also marked the highest same store sales growth.Anant Agarwal, Vice-Chairperson, CPRL, which runs McDonald’s stores in Northern and Eastern region, told businessline, “Now, consumers are again returning to their earlier consumption patterns. Players have also pivoted in some way through value offerings. So a combination of factors including the positive consumer sentiment coming back has led to a correction in sales this. We are seeing good same store sales growth in the ongoing quarter.”After witnessing pent-up demand in post pandemic year, QSR chains had been witnessing challenges in the past 2-3 years, due to subdued same store sales growth driven by various macro-economic factors. Same-store sales growth, in an important financial metric for the industry, that measures the change in revenue generated by a company’s existing restaurants over a specific period compared to the exact same period a year prior.Restaurant Brands Asia, which runs Burger King outlets in India, posted same store sales growth of 12.6 per cent for India business in June quarter , its highest in the past 15 quarters. On the earnings call, Rajeev Varman, Group Chief Executive Officer said, “ We have not taken any significant pricing action to have reached that 12.6 per cent growth. It’s driven by traffic that we have generated. And we have had a very good start to Q2 as well.”Devyani International said that the KFC business posted double-digit sales growth in June quarter and positive same store sales growth. At the same time, Pizza Hut business also “delivered sequentially better SSSG numbers”, it added.“Q1 FY27 marks our strongest topline growth, highest same-store sales growth and fastest guest count growth in the recent past. Most importantly, every one of those numbers is being led by more people walking into stores more often. We delivered healthy double-digit topline growth, positive same-store sales growth in each of the three months and robust double-digit footfall-led momentum across our markets. May and June were particularly strong with mid-single-digit SSSG.
