Over 3,000 evacuated as floods worsen in Bacoor City

LUCENA CITY, Philippines – The number of residents evacuated in Bacoor City, Cavite continued to rise Sunday (Aug. 9) as persistent heavy rains brought by the intensified southwest monsoon, or habagat, caused flooding in low-lying areas.

“Rescue operations by the Bacoor City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) are continuing, in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), to assist residents who are stranded and in need of immediate evacuation due to rising floodwaters inside their homes,” the city government said in a report in Filipino Sunday morning.

As of 9:56 a.m. Sunday, a total of 931 families, or 3,172 individuals, were staying in 44 evacuation centers across the city, the report said.
