The Nigeria Democratic Congress on Saturday threatened to boycott the forthcoming local government elections in Enugu State over the alleged refusal of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission to release official electoral materials to the party.

In a statement signed by the State Secretary of the party, Chukwujekwu Emmanuel, the NDC accused ENSIEC of political discrimination and withholding critical electoral materials belonging to its duly authorised representatives, thereby preventing the party’s full participation in the poll.

The statement said the State Executive Committee of the NDC met at an emergency meeting on Saturday and protested the alleged bias of the electoral commission.

“The Executive Committee described the alleged refusal as a direct violation of the constitutional rights of the Party, insisting that no electoral management body possesses the legal authority to deny a registered political party access to materials required for participation in an election.

“The Nigeria Democratic Congress warned that should ENSIEC fail to immediately release the Party’s electoral materials, it would have no option but to withdraw from participation in the forthcoming Enugu Local Government Election,” the party said.
