OLONGAPO CITY, Philippines — Two landslides and a rockslide hit the upper areas of this city on Saturday (Aug. 8) as continuous southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” rains saturated the landslide-prone mountainous area of Sitio Tabacuhan in Barangay Santa Rita.
Village councilor John Tagulao Cruz, head of the Committee on Disaster, said the first landslide occurred at about 9 a.m. along Bigtime Street in Tabacuhan and damaged a small residential house. A neighbor identified the affected resident as a certain Ruben.
The second landslide occurred about 35 minutes later along Tabacuhan Road in Barangay Santa Rita, damaging at least three houses and affecting three families, or 10 individuals.
