CASTILLEJOS, Zambales — Seven families or 23 individuals were preemptively evacuated from Barangay Balaybay in this town due to landslides amid heavy rainfall that continued to affect parts of this province on Saturday.According to Rolex Estella, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office, the evacuees were moved to safety as a precaution because of the landslide threat in the area.Meanwhile, authorities continued to monitor Barangay Sta. Fe in nearby San Marcelino town, where floodwaters were spilling over a bridge as the Sta. Fe River overflowed.The provincial government, through the Office of the Governor, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), and Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), also delivered relief goods to Sta. Fe on Friday for residents who helped in sandbagging operations.The provincial government likewise provided sacks to be used for sandbagging as local officials and residents worked to manage the flooding.The San Marcelino Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office earlier reported that the Sta. Fe River and Sta. Fe National High School remained under close monitoring as of 8:30 a.m. Saturday.The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Zambales would experience monsoon rains with moderate to heavy and at times intense rains that could trigger flash floods or landslides.
