A Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) team arrested the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of Rasampalayam in Manachanallur taluk in the district on Friday on the charge of taking a bribe.A. Nandakumar, 42 , VAO, was arrested on charges of demanding and obtaining ₹2,000 as bribe to recommend changes in the name of a patta.A DVAC press release said Manikandan of Rasampalayam had applied online for a name change in the patta of a piece of land that was in the name of his grandfather. When Mr. Manikandan approached the VAO regarding the status of the petition, the latter initially demanded ₹3,000 to recommend for name transfer in the patta and subsequently settled for ₹2,000. Mr. Manikandan lodged a complaint with the DVAC, Tiruchi unit. A trap was laid and the VAO was caught when he took the money in his office, the release said. Published - August 07, 2026 09:23 pm IST
