KThe Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) arrested a Village Administrative Officer (VAO) for demanding bribe for registering the death and giving death certificate.Police said Mariswari of Erachi near Kovilpatti applied for registering the death of her grandparents Subbu and Mariammal, who passed away a few years ago. When the VAO Senthilkumar demanded ₹3,500 for registering the death of Subbu and Mariammal, Ms. Mariswari filed a complaint with DVAC.As Ms. Mariswari handed over ₹3,500 to Senthilkumar on Wednesday, the DVAC led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Peter Paul trapped the VAO and raided his home at Shanmuga Sigamani Nagar in nearby Pandavarmangalam village panchayat.During investigation, police said Senthilkumar was trapped by the DVAC in 2012 also when he took ₹3,000 for ‘patta transfer’ even as he was working in Kovilpatti.
