Authorities have stepped up beach inspections across Greece using drones, digital tools and targeted checks, with the highest fines so far reaching €73,000 on Rhodes and €72,490 on Zakynthos.
The General Secretariat of Public Property said its regional services under the Ministry of National Economy and Finance have carried out more than 1,500 inspections this summer at over 300 beaches involving more than 450 businesses.
Inspections are supported by drones, the MyCoast digital app, which allows citizens to submit complaints, and reports filed directly with local property services.
The highest number of complaints have been recorded in Halkidiki peninsula, eastern Attica, the Cyclades, the Dodecanese and Kavala in northern Greece.
Authorities said complaints are down compared with previous years, attributing the decline to greater compliance by businesses with Law 5092/2024, which regulates the use of coastal areas.
