Greece has introduced stricter controls on its beaches in an effort to maintain order, protect the environment, and ensure a more comfortable experience for visitors during the summer season.
Authorities are using drones and increased police patrols to monitor beaches and respond to violations. Fines are being issued for activities that disturb other holidaymakers, with beach games such as rackets only permitted in areas where they do not create inconvenience. Those who ignore the rules can face a fine of 1,000 euros.
Loud music on the beach is also being treated as a serious breach of public order. Tourists who disturb the peace with excessive noise may be fined up to 500 euros.
Visitors are reminded that they must leave beaches clean after their stay. Anyone who causes environmental damage or pollutes coastal areas can face penalties, while cases involving contamination of seawater are subject to particularly heavy fines.
Safety regulations for water activities are also being strictly enforced. People taking part in sea sports are required to wear life jackets, while those using paddle boards must follow all safety requirements. Authorities have also reminded tourists that entering the sea with paddle boards during nighttime hours is prohibited.
