The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has continued its extensive on-site tax inspections in July, focusing on areas with high tourist activity and businesses identified through risk analysis as having an increased likelihood of tax violations in the food service, hospitality, entertainment and other tourism-related sectors.
According to a statement that AADE released on Wednesday, a total of 2,252 inspections were carried out between July 20 and 26, with inspectors detecting violations at 732 businesses. That resulted in a noncompliance rate of 37.42%.
Overall, the inspections identified a total 13,287 tax violations, revealed undeclared net revenues amounting to €545,573 and led to the imposition of €1,023,281 in fines and 48-hour shuttering for eight businesses.
Cases included a well-known restaurant at the small port of Naoussa, on Paros island; a short-term accommodation business and a tourism company, also on Paros, a tourism business and cafe in Corfu, as well as two businesses in Faliraki on Rhodes, two on Aegina island, near Piraeus, and one in Preveza, western Greece.
Inspections will continue and expand throughout August across the country, per the tax administration’s action plan.
