Duncan Hoorn's defence in his murder trial continued over two days in the Western Cape High Court, where he repeatedly denied killing his wife, Chantel Pasqualle-Hoorn, despite frequent interventions from both his advocate and the presiding judge.
Hoorn has pleaded not guilty to charges of kidnapping, murder and defeating the administration of justice.
Acting Judge Amanda van Leeve repeatedly instructed Hoorn to answer questions directly, at one point telling him she was "quite tired" of his failure to respond after he avoided questions about apologetic voice notes sent to Chantel's family following her hospitalisation.
The voice notes form a key part of the State's case. In them, Hoorn asks for forgiveness, says he became "blind" with anger and insists he did not act intentionally. Hoorn told the court the messages were apologies for how he treated Chantel's family, not admissions that he had assaulted her.
