The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa has officially proclaimed 4 November 2026 as the date for South Africa’s Local Government Elections.
He made the announcement in Durban on Friday.
The proclamation formally sets the date for voters to elect municipal councils across the country, marking the start of the final stages of preparations for the polls.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has been preparing for the elections, with voter registration activities already completed ahead of the country’s municipal vote.
