(Gyeonggi Province) As temperatures approach 40 degrees Celsius across the Greater Seoul area, registered foreign residents of Gyeonggi Province may be eligible for insurance payments if they are diagnosed with a heat-related illness.The climate insurance program is fully funded by the provincial government, so residents do not need to enroll or pay premiums. All registered residents of Gyeonggi Province, including foreign residents, are automatically covered regardless of nationality or visa type.Coverage applies to illnesses and accidents occurring between April 11, 2026, and April 10, 2027.The policy pays 150,000 won ($106) to residents diagnosed with a heat- or cold-related illness, with the payment available once during the coverage period.It also reimburses up to 100,000 won per incident for hospital admission related to heat or cold illnesses and other climate-related accidents.A death benefit of 3 million won is available when a covered illness or climate-related accident results in death.Residents who sustain an injury during an official weather advisory or warning, or as a result of a natural disaster, may receive an additional consolation payment of 300,000 won if a doctor determines that at least four weeks of treatment are required.The insurance also pays 200,000 won upon diagnosis of certain climate-related infectious diseases, including dengue fever, West Nile fever, scrub typhus and Lyme disease.Coverage begins automatically for eligible residents and ends when they move out of Gyeonggi Province.To make a claim, the insured person or their legal guardian must submit an application directly to Meritz Fire & Marine Insurance along with the required medical and identification documents.Claims are generally processed within three business days after the insurer receives all required documents.The claim form is available on the climate insurance page of Gyeonggi Province’s official website.Quick Info Eligibility: All registered residents of Gyeonggi Province, including registered foreign residents, regardless of nationality or visa type
