The Take It Back (TIB) Movement, Lagos State chapter, has accused the Nigeria Police Force of failing to protect peaceful protesters during Wednesday's nationwide demonstration against economic hardship and poor governance under President Bola Tinubu's administration.

In a statement issued after the protest, the movement alleged that armed thugs attacked demonstrators in the presence of police officers, who, instead of intervening, later fired tear gas at the protesters.

According to the statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of TIB Lagos, Oluwatosin Adeyemi, the group had formally requested police protection ahead of the protest and initially believed the heavy deployment of officers was to ensure the safety of participants.

"As protesters assembled at the designated venue, we were met by a heavy deployment of police officers. We initially believed they had been deployed to provide security for the protest, following our formal request for police protection. Unfortunately, events unfolded differently," the statement said.
