Since the launch of its mass sterilisation campaign in mid-June, the Mdzananda Animal Clinic said it has sterilised nearly 500 dogs in just six weeks.
The campaign aims to conduct 1,000 sterilisations as the fight against animal overpopulation intensifies.
The clinic based in Khayelitsha in Cape Town said its clinic and shelter perform these sterilisations in addition to the clinic’s daily sterilisation programme at its on-site operating theatre, highlighting the organisation's commitment to tackling the growing pet overpopulation crisis in Khayelitsha and surrounding communities.
Mdzananda’s Fundraising and Communications Executive, Marcelle du Plessis, said it’s estimated that there are approximately 300,000 dogs and cats living in Khayelitsha, with this number continuing to grow as the human population expands.
