The Salem Railway Division collected ₹2,19,20,014 through ticket-checking drives conducted during July 2026.Members of the ticket-checking squads of the Salem Division conducted regular checks on moving trains and at railway premises to detect various malpractices. During such checks, they discovered cases of persons travelling without a ticket, irregular travel, unbooked luggage, etc. and levied penalties accordingly.During the month of July, the ticket-checking squads detected 11,202 cases of ticketless travel and collected ₹1.22 crore as penalty from the offenders, an increase of 18% in amount collected as penalty as compared with the corresponding period last year. During July 2025, the division had collected to the tune of ₹1.03 crore as penalty.Moreover, a total of 12,024 cases of irregular train travel were also found during July 2026, and an amount of ₹96.32 lakh was collected as penalty from passengers, marking an increase of 16.2% in cases deducted and 74.7% in amount collected as penalty, as against the same period last year. During July 2025, the division had deducted 10,346 cases and had collected an amount of ₹55.12 lakh as a penalty.Similarly, 94 cases of unbooked luggage/carrying luggage exceeding the permitted quantity were detected. The amount levied as penalty for these cases was at ₹43,392. Members of the ticket-checking squads detected these irregularities/offenses during the 4,403 checks conducted during July 2026.
