For the second consecutive week, the Salem Railway Division (SRD) has imposed fines on 411 ticketless passengers who were travelling on a single train.A special intensive ticket-checking drive was carried out on Train No. 15627 Coimbatore-Silchar Weekly Express on Sunday night (July 12, 2026) even as the train continued its journey from Coimbatore to Salem. All passengers of the train were thoroughly checked by the 19 squads of ticket-checking staff of the Commercial Department, and five Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were also involved in the drive.Over 80 unauthorised passengers travelling in reserved compartments were deboarded and directed to the general compartments. Furthermore, ticketless/unauthorised passengers were penalised as per rules. Fines to the tune of ₹3.68 lakh were collected as penalty from the 411 individuals with invalid tickets.It is notable that on the same train on July 5, ₹2.64 lakh was collected as a penalty from 301 ticketless travellers by the Railway officials. For the second consecutive week, intensive checking was conducted by the officials.
