The Salem Railway Division has collected fines worth ₹24.70 crore through ticket-checking drives conducted during April 2025–March 2026. This is the highest-ever earnings in a year through ticket-checking drives in the history of the division.

Members of the ticket-checking squads of Salem Division conduct regular checks inside trains and in railway premises to detect malpractices such as persons travelling without ticket, irregular travel, unbooked luggage, and levy penalties accordingly.

During the financial year 2025-26, the ticket-checking staff of the Salem Division surpassed their previous records.

During April 2025-March 2026, the squad detected 1,72,746 cases of ticketless travel, collecting fine amount of ₹15.45 crore, an increase of 5.2% in cases detected and 14.2% in amount collected as compared with last year. The Division also detected 1,64,149 cases of ticketless travel and collected an amount of ₹13.52 crore as penalty.

Moreover, 1,50,161 cases of irregular travel were identified and a fine amount of ₹9.20 crore was collected, marking an increase of 7.5% in the amount collected as a penalty as against last year. During April 2024-March 2025, the division had collected ₹8.56 crore as penalty.
