MANILA, Philippines – Filipino tennis star and world’s Top 20 Alex Eala was honored in a Senate resolution adopted on Wednesday.

Senate adopted Senate Resolution No. 554, congratulating and commending Eala for her historic championship in the women’s singles division of the 2026 Mubadala DC Open, making her the first Filipino to win a Women’s Tennis Association Tour-Level Singles Title.

Among the several sponsorship speeches, Sen. Joel Villanueva highlighted the Eala’s feat that led to her monumental win.

“Alex did not simply reach championship point. She reached a milestone that many believed was beyond the reach of any Filipino tennis player… Alex defeated reigning Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen, defending champion Leylah Fernandez, former World No. 3 Elina Svitolina, four-time Grand Slam champion and former World No. 1 Naomi Osaka, before defeating World No. 3 Jessica Pegula in the championship match. Four Top 10 players. Five world-class opponents. One historic championship,” Villanueva emphasized.
