Alexandra Eala became the first player from the Philippines to win a WTA Tour-level singles title, claiming victory at the Washington Open.

Eala defeated top seed Jessica Pegula 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, winning 10 of 13 games after the rain-delayed final resumed.

The victory propels Eala to a career-high world ranking of number 20, extending her winning streak against top-10 opponents to five matches.

Taylor Fritz claimed his first title of the season, beating Spanish teenager Rafa Jodar 7-6, 6-4 in the men's final.
