MANILA, Philippines — The House of Representatives on Tuesday adopted House Resolution No. 1286 commending and congratulating Alexandra “Alex” Maniego Eala for making history as the first Filipino to win a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Tour-level singles title.
The resolution — introduced by House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III, Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander A. Marcos, and Minority Leader Marcelino C. Libanan —recognizes Eala’s landmark victory at the 2026 WTA Mubadala DC Open in Washington, DC, against top-seeded American Jessica Pegula, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The resolution recognizes the magnitude of Eala’s achievement, calling it “a defining milestone in Philippine sports and elevating the country’s standing in the international tennis community.”
