MANILA, Philippines — Tennis star Alex Eala got praise from House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” G. Dy III on Tuesday after her historic Wimbledon campaign, which ended in the fourth round with her loss to Italy’s Jasmine Paolini.
“Alex, your historic campaign in Wimbledon may not have ended in a win, but you’re still a winner in the hearts of every Filipino,” Dy said in Filipino in a social media post.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the speaker said every match Eala played throughout the tournament reflected her determination, resilience, and steady growth as one of the world’s rising tennis stars.
