ILOILO CITY — Residents of Western Visayas should continue to expect cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours as the southwest monsoon (habagat), enhanced by Tropical Storm Maymay (international name: Kujira), continues to affect the region, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
In its 5 p.m. regional weather forecast issued Wednesday, Aug. 5, Pagasa said Antique, Iloilo, and Guimaras will remain have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon, even as Maymay moves farther north.
As of 3 p.m., the center of Maymay was estimated some 155 kilometers west of Sinait, Ilocos Sur, packing maximum sustained winds of 75 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of up to 90 kph while moving north-northeast at 10 kph.
Although the tropical storm is no longer threatening Western Visayas directly, Pagasa said it continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, which is bringing wet weather to the western sections of the Visayas.
