Bulgaria has strongly condemned all forms of anti-Semitism following an incident in Bansko in which a group of Bulgarian youths allegedly threatened and directed anti-Semitic insults at Italian students staying at a local hotel.
In a statement published on the social media platform X, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry said the government was deeply concerned by reports of anti-Semitic acts targeting a group of young Italian Jews.
“Bulgaria is deeply concerned by reports of anti-Semitic acts directed against a group of young Italian Jews. Such actions are unacceptable and have no place in a democratic society,” the ministry said.
The Foreign Ministry added that it is working closely with the police and the Interior Ministry to establish all the circumstances surrounding the August 2 incident.
The ministry also said Bulgaria remains ready to provide assistance to the Italian authorities as the investigation continues.
