A Place in the Sun presenter Ben Hillman was left defeated as he failed to find his buyers a home.15:34, 05 Aug 2026Ben Hillman, host of A Place in the Sun, was left admitting 'I've failed' after a tough property search.‌The Channel 4 star returned to screens as a repeat episode aired on Wednesday, August 5.‌Having first joined the series in 2016, this time, Ben was tasked with helping Clacton-on-Sea couple Deb and Steve find their new home in Spain.‌The couple were planning on moving to Spain and selling their UK home, spending their retirement abroad after having spent several holidays in Spain.With a £150,000 budget, they explained to Ben that they were looking for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom property, that was near to the beach, as well as bars and restaurants.‌Deb was also on the hunt for a house, explaining: "Because it's a permanent move, I don't want a holiday home, I want a house."She added that she wanted somewhere modern that also looked nice from the street, reports Glasgow Live.However, the couple were less than impressed with the properties Ben suggested, and ultimately left without putting in any offers.‌Following the viewings, Ben confessed: "They were looking for the perfect forever home, and I'm afraid to say, I've failed to find it for them."I hope I can steer them in the right direction," he went on to say.He subsequently told the prospective buyers: "We were exhausted, we did a lot, we saw a lot."‌Deb had her heart set on exploring other parts of Almeria, acknowledging: "We've only scratched the surface, we need to see more."Steve added: “We would make compromises for the right property.”‌Deb went on: “I think, when you find the house you want, there might be something missing, but if you like it that much, you’re going to compromise because you want that house anyway.”Ben asked them: “So in truth, you didn’t find anything you really fell in love with.”They both replied: “There was a couple we really liked but it wasn’t enough, it wasn’t quite right.”Article continues belowThey vowed to come back and rent for a few months, with Ben saying: “I’m confident the right house is out there and waiting for you so I wish you all the best when you come back out here next time.”A Place in the Sun is available to watch on Channel 4.
