A Place in the Sun retirees Liz and Tony from Yorkshire were searching for a holiday home in Mallorca with a budget of around £190,000, but the couple were left disappointed after none of the properties suited their preferences15:04, 01 Jun 2026A couple on A Place In The Sun have pledged to continue their search for the perfect property in Mallorca after turning down multiple options. In a repeat episode broadcast today, retirees Liz and Tony were on the hunt for a holiday retreat on the stunning island, with a budget of approximately £190,000 and "wiggle room" stretching to £220,000.Former solicitor Liz and retired government officer Tony are based in Yorkshire, having first met nearly 40 years ago. They tied the knot just six months after their initial encounter, with Tony describing it as a "whirlwind romance". Following numerous visits to Mallorca, the couple had set their hearts on purchasing a property there."There are lovely places, nice coastal resorts, people are generally friendly," Tony said. He added, "I've always had a wish to have a property overseas; it's always been a dream of mine to do that," reports Yorkshire Live.Yet, despite discovering one property boasting "breathtaking" views and another coming in substantially under their budget, the pair were ultimately left disheartened by their search.Property expert Jean Johannson showed them around various homes across the island, but following careful deliberation, Liz and Tony concluded that none matched their requirements. The final property they viewed, priced marginally above their budget at £229,060, was a three-bedroom flat situated on the 10th floor of a block, which Jean described as "amazing". "You have saved the best till last," Liz said; however, Jean later confessed her clients appeared "underwhelmed", and shortly afterwards, Liz pointed out one "issue" with the flat directly facing a hotel, while Tony remained unconvinced by the location."I don't want to rule it out at this stage, but I need some time to think about it," he said. The following day, Jean acknowledged, "The pressure was on," as three properties she had presented to Liz and Tony had become unavailable by the time they viewed the final one.Despite taking their time to mull things over, the pair weren't sold on the options.Jean said: "What a journey we have been on, I left you yesterday, in good spirits way up there with that great 10th floor apartment. You've had a night to sleep on it, have you come to any decisions?"Liz responded: "That apartment was everything we asked for, it has the spacious lounge, lovely kitchen, three bedrooms which was more than we asked for, a nice balcony and some views."Tony then revealed: "Unfortunately, from a modern aspect, it was great, but the location was the issue for me, Jean."Jean answered: "What a shame, so the property was perfect, but the location didn't quite work for you."The duo also weren't enthusiastic about other properties Jean had presented to them, with Liz conceding: "It's certainly made us reconsider the location that we wanted, but I think the issues that we had with the properties in Soller are still too big for us to overcome."But I think it's really helped us identify where we want to be."Tony continued: "The one thing for me is it's made me more determined, opened my eyes in terms of what's available, what we can afford."He went on to say: "One of the things we have considered is that we probably may need to increase our budget."Jean responded: "I think that's a great idea because it has been a challenge. That budget in this market in Mallorca right now. But if I've helped you with what areas you want to live in and that maybe adding a bit more money will get you exactly what you want, then my job is done."Tony concluded: "It's been a fantastic learning experience and a great opportunity," while Liz added: "We just didn't find the right property, but we will."Article continues belowA Place in the Sun airs weekdays from 3pm on Channel 4.
