Predicting a winner for Sunday’s Totalsports Women’s Race in Cape Town is no easy task, but a pair of Kenyan debutants might just hold the winning edge.
“South Africa has amazing races across this beautiful country, and I am looking forward to competing in the world-renowned city of Cape Town—a top destination for tourists and sports enthusiasts alike,” said Faith Cherono, who will be hunting for victory in her event debut.
Cherono is no stranger to South African road racing. In March, she delivered a standout performance to finish second at the Absa RUN YOUR CITY GQEBERHA 10K, stopping the clock in a blistering 30:44. That effort landed just shy of her personal best of 30:06, and another fast course at sea level could give her the perfect platform to break the elusive 30-minute barrier.
“I believe we will have a quality field with athletes from South Africa, Kenya, and beyond,” Cherono said. “I am aiming for a personal best and will do everything I can to achieve it. But first and foremost, I am competing against myself.”
