The 2026 Samoa Open got underway on Wednesday with a practice round at Faleata Golf Course, bringing together professional and amateur golfers from across the Pacific ahead of the official opening round on Thursday.
Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Samoa Golf Incorporated board member Patrick Fepuleai said Wednesday's event was intended as a fun and relaxed warm-up for players before the main competition begins.
"Today is just a fun day and more of a practice round. The real tee-off starts tomorrow with the Open," Fepuleai said.
He added that some of the golfers participating in the practice round will not compete in the tournament's official rounds.
A total of 74 players took part in Wednesday's event after one team added two extra players to the original field of 72 competitors.
