Heavy rain continued across Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts on Tuesday, with swelling rivers causing flooding in Udupi district.Traffic movement on National Highway-66 in Udupi district was affected following waterlogging on the service road in Kundapur town and Beejadi. The Santhe Market in Kundapur was waterlogged for several hours. Water entered several houses in Ward 7 of Kundapur. Movement of vehicles on Beejadi Fisheries Road was also affected due to waterlogging.The Varahi, Chakra, Kubja, Sowparnika, Yedamavinahole, Somavati, and other rivers in Kundapur and Byndoor taluks were flowing close to danger levels. There was a possibility of the Kubja River water entering the famed Kamalashile Temple. The Brahmakunda River near Marnakatte Brahmalingeshwara Temple was flowing close to the danger level.According to real-time rainfall figures of Udupi district posted on the dashboard of the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre at 6.15 p.m., the highest of 82 mm was recorded in Thekkatte, followed by 79 mm in Keduru, both in Kundapura taluk. Kalathur in Brahmavar taluk recorded 78 mm, while Kundapura taluk’s Kumbashi, Beluru, and Haklad recorded 77 mm, 76 mm, and 75 mm, respectively. Nalkuru in Brahmavar taluk recorded 74.5 mm and Hebri recorded 74.2 mm rainfall. Beejadi and Hangaloru, both in Kundapura taluk, recorded 74 mm, while Billadi in Brahmavar recorded 73.5 mm. Kundapura taluk’s Koni and Anegalli recorded 66.5 mm and 63.5 mm rainfall. Brahmavar taluk’s Heggunje, Kaduru, and Karje recorded 62 mm, 61.5 mm, and 61 mm, respectively. Basuru in Kundapura taluk recorded 60.5 mm and Brahmavar taluk’s Yadtadi recorded 60 mm.Dakshina Kannada district recorded an average of 57.8 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 a.m. on Tuesday. Ullal taluk recorded an average of 88.8 mm, followed by Moodbidri with 87 mm, Mangaluru with 84.6 mm, Bantwal with 73.7 mm, Puttur with 60 mm, Sullia with 53.9 mm, Belthangady with 42.3 mm, Kadaba with 46.1 mm, and Mulki with 32.6 mm. Nine members of families likely to be affected by landslides were shifted as a precautionary measure to a relief centre opened in Abhaya Guest House in Kukke Subrahmanya on Tuesday.As many as 6 hectares of horticulture crops, 52 utility poles, and 2.3 km of Major District Roads were damaged in Dakshina Kannada. The level of the Phalguni River in Addur was at 6 metres, against the danger level of 6.5 metres.
