A fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon on Mount Pelion at the southeastern part of Thessaly, central Greece, the Fire Department said.
The blaze was burning forest and agricultural land near the village of Agios Lavrentios.
The Fire Department said it had sent 30 firefighters with eight fire engines, one team on foot, and three water-dropping helicopters in the area to stop the flames from approaching the village.
The mountain which forms a hook-like peninsula between the Pagasetic Gulf and the Aegean Sea, is popular with tourists year round as it is known both for its pristine forest and hiking trails, as well as its numerous beaches facing the Aegean Sea.
