NEW Kaizer Chiefs signing Langelihle Phili during his time at Stellenbosch FC as seen against striker Flavio Da Silva during a Betway Premiership match.

Ashley Du Preez, Given Msimango, and a transfer fee: that’s reportedly how much it cost Kaizer Chiefs to acquire the services of Langelihle Phili from Stellenbosch during the winter transfer window.

For a 21-year-old who’s still finding his feet in professional football, that was a massive deal. It was also a serious piece of business from Stellenbosch, who smartly signed Phili as a free agent after he was released by AmaZulu three seasons ago.

Given all that, Phili cannot afford to rest on his laurels. While the technical team will want to integrate him slowly into the setup – especially after he missed the pre-season tour in Marbella, Spain – the fans will likely not share that patience.

Most Amakhosi faithful expect Phili to hit the ground running and solve the scoring problems that undermined their impressive defensive record in the Betway Premiership last season.
