Despite the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert forecasting heavy rainfall for north Kerala districts on Tuesday, clear weather prevailed in most parts of the region till forenoon.Heavy rains had lashed the six districts in the region for the past three days. On Tuesday morning, warm and sunny weather returned to districts such as Kozhikode. However, the IMD authorities in the afternoon (1 p.m.) issued a red alert for Kozhikode, Kannur, Wayanad, and Kasaragod and an orange alert for Malappuram and Palakkad. A significant lull in precipitation is expected on Wednesday as rainfall drops to light-to-moderate levels (2.5 mm to 64.4 mm), bringing a green status across all six districts.Meanwhile, the number of people staying in relief camps across various taluks in Kozhikode district remained over 900, though officials said this figure will likely come down by the evening. A total of 32 camps are currently operational, accommodating 376 men, 418 women, and 170 children from 365 families. The highest number of inmates is in Kozhikode taluk, where 701 people from 260 families are staying across 15 camps, including 283 men, 312 women, and 106 children.According to sources, water-logging is still a major problem in many low-lying areas of Kozhikode such as Mavoor, Kannadikkal, and Parambil Kadavu.
