The Gani Fawehimi Memorial Organization (GAFAMORG) has declared its support for the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and other organised labour groups in their renewed campaign for a substantial increase in the national minimum wage and the establishment of a living wage for Nigerian workers.
In a statement issued on Monday, the organisation described the campaign for a living wage as a struggle for democracy, constitutional governance, human dignity and public accountability, arguing that millions of Nigerian workers remain trapped in poverty despite being employed.
"GAFAMORG expresses full solidarity with the renewed call by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC), their affiliates, and all democratic forces for a substantial increase in the national minimum wage and the establishment of a genuine Living Wage for Nigerian workers," the statement read.
The organisation commended organised labour for prioritising the welfare of workers and their families, insisting that a democratic society cannot thrive when workers are unable to meet their basic needs.
