A 41-year-old person was sentenced to rigorous life imprisonment for murdering a person due to the latter’s failure to repay a debt of ₹6,000.According to the police, Chakali Srinivasulu, a resident of Nyamaddala village in Chennekothapalli mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district, and Ashok were staying at the Mahatma Gandhi Shelter located in Kovvuru Nagar in Anantapur. On June 25, 2022, around 1.45 p.m., while Ashok was having lunch, Srinivasulu demanded repayment of the ₹6,000 that was due to him. Ashok reportedly said that he would not return the money, and enraged by this, Srinivasulu hit the victim on the head with a wooden pestle, causing his death on the spot.Based on a complaint lodged by the shelter owner, Lakshmikant Naik, Anantapur IV Town police registered a case and after completing the investigation, filed the charge sheet before the court. The court examined 10 witnesses and after evaluating the evidence and witness testimonies, found the accused guilty.Judge C.N. Murthy of the Anantapur VII Additional District and Sessions and Family Court delivered the judgment on Monday, sentencing the accused to life imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1,000.Superintendent of Police (SP) P.
