Accor and budget hotel platform Treebo have called off their strategic partnership, including proposed equity investment. The France-headquartered hotel chain that has brands such as ibis, Novotel and Sofitel, among others, had announced expansion plans last April. This included a renewed partnership with InterGlobe to grow the India portfolio to 300 properties by 2030.Accor and InterGlobe had also announced plans for joint investment in Treebo that would make them the largest shareholders. Treebo was also expected to lead the development of hotels under ibis and Mercure brands through a master licence agreement.“Accor, InterGlobe Hotels and Treebo have mutually agreed not to proceed with the proposed strategic partnership announced in April 2025. Following constructive discussions, the parties have decided not to proceed with the proposed transaction,” said Accor.At present, Accor has 75 hotels in operation in India. “This decision does not change our confidence in the long-term growth potential of the Indian hospitality market, and Accor and InterGlobe Hotels remain committed to their growth strategy and expansion plans in the region,” it added.In a statement, Treebo said both sides had signed a non-binding term sheet and were engaged in finalising the definitive agreements. “However, ultimately we could not align our positions on crucial issues. We remain bullish about the opportunities we are pursuing and continue to build our business independently, aiming to reach 2,000-plus hotels in the next five years in the economy segment and 100-plus in the mid market segment,” said Treebo.Published on August 3, 2026
