Twelve new Swiss-made Stadler FLIRT trains have arrived in Lithuania and are undergoing testing ahead of their planned entry into passenger service this autumn, LTG Link said.
The passenger transport company, part of the state-owned Lithuanian Railways Group (LTG), said the new fleet includes electric trains that will operate on the Vilnius-Klaipėda route and battery-powered trains designed to run on both electrified and non-electrified rail lines.
The battery-electric trains will serve the Kaunas-Šiauliai and Vilnius-Varėna-Marcinkonys routes.
Testing begins at Stadler's factory in Poland, where key systems, including ventilation and emergency functions, are inspected before the trains are shipped to Lithuania for further trials.
According to LTG Link, upcoming tests will include double-unit, triple-unit and mixed-traction operations. All 15 Stadler trains ordered for Lithuania, nine electric and six battery-powered units, must complete testing before entering regular passenger service.
