Woman beaten and shot while defending baby during brazen daylight robbery.
A Gauteng woman was shot and assaulted with a firearm on Saturday, while defending her one-year-old child during an armed robbery as she sold eggs.
According to Pretoria Volunteer Emergency Services (PVES), its members were dispatched to the scene at about 1.05pm, where they found the 35-year-old woman with facial injuries and a gunshot wound to her upper left leg after she was allegedly attacked at gunpoint.
PVES said the woman was assaulted with the firearm and shot during the robbery but fought back while shielding her toddler from harm.
"On arrival, a 35-year-old female was found with injuries after being robbed at gunpoint while selling eggs. During the incident, she was assaulted with the firearm, sustaining facial injuries, and was shot in the left upper leg," the organisation said.
