With two major musical milestones – the celebration of the 200th anniversary of Ludwig van Beethoven’s death and a tribute to Dionysis Savvopoulos – the Athens Concert Hall (also known as the Megaron) has announced its program for the 2026-2027 season.
The new program spans the classical repertoire and chamber music to Greek song, contemporary dance, jazz, and the performing arts, welcoming leading performers and international ensembles, from violinist and conductor Leonidas Kavakos and Argentine classical concert pianist Martha Argerich to the Cleveland Orchestra and the Vienna Philharmonic.
The new season, which begins in September, is centered on the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death in 1827. The Megaron is dedicating an extensive concert cycle throughout the year to the great composer, highlighting different aspects of his work.
The renowned conductor Jordi Savall, together with the Capella Nacional de Catalunya choir and the Concert des Nations orchestra, will present the “Missa Solemnis,” the majestic Mass composed by Beethoven and considered one of his most important works.[David Ignaszewski]
