Jules Hudson swapped 'claustrophobic London' for the countryside, where he lives with his family15:07, 01 Aug 2026Jules Hudson returns to filming on Escape to the Country in AprilTV star Jules Hudson previously revealed that he was in the middle of grieving when he was hit with more tragedy.‌The 56-year-old first studied archaeology before joining the military at Sandhurst, then eventually switched careers, entering show business as a well-known television presenter.‌In 1996, Jules was part of the production team for BBC2's Horizon, Channel 4's Time Team, and numerous military history series.‌He became a host on Escape to the Country in 2007 and regularly appears on This Week on the Farm alongside Helen Skelton.Despite loving the greenbelt and seeking solace in the UK's most idyllic spots, he once lived in the city to be near his wife's workplace. And having its own plot was really important to me."‌Tragic lossesIn 2022, Jules announced that his dad had died at the age of 93, leaving him heartbroken.As reported by The Sun, he said: "He was a great guy, I loved him to bits. When you are trying to steer your loved ones through the final stages of their lives, it is really challenging, and it’s very emotional."He added: "I made the mistake of trying to put it to the back of my mind. With all the stuff that comes with the loss of somebody very close to you, there’s a horrible amount of administration that you have to go through.Article continues below"I probably didn’t spend enough time dealing with it. I find myself now having to catch up a bit, and it’s catching me quite unaware. You can get quite emotional when you least expect it."Jule went on to experience more devastation as his two dogs died following a cancer battle.
