A final ride for Wessel: Cycling community remembers father whose life was cut short.
The cycling community gathered in grief on Saturday morning to honour the life of Wessel van Dyk, a beloved father whose sudden death has left family, friends and fellow cyclists devastated.
At 8am, cyclists gathered at Suncoast Casino in Durban before setting off on a tribute ride in memory of Van Dyk. The ride became a moment of reflection and solidarity, as members of the community came together to celebrate his life and remember the man behind the helmet.
Flowers were placed in his honour, marking the spot where cyclists paused to pay tribute to a man many described as passionate, dedicated and deeply loved.
Van Dyk, a father and keen cyclist, died after a tragic collision while he was out training along the Durban beachfront route.
