Parliament approved on Friday an Environment and Energy Ministry bill expanding the responsibilities of state-controlled water utilities EYDAP and EYATH, with lawmakers from the ruling New Democracy party voting in favor and opposition parties voting against.

Closing the two-day debate, Minister Stavros Papastavrou said the government was progressing toward “a responsible, modern and comprehensive national water policy,” adding that “inaction and wishful thinking are not solutions.”
