The National Transparency Authority has completed a report into alleged irregularities involving publicly funded contracts for digital water meters.
The report, which has been in the hands of National Transparency Authority chief Alexandra Rogakou for about two weeks, concerns projects financed through European Union funds for the supply and installation of smart water meters by municipalities and municipal water and sewage companies across Greece.
The case is also being examined by Greece’s Competition Commission and the European Public Prosecutor’s Office.
A 28-page complaint submitted in 2024 by an anonymous whistleblower alleged irregularities in more than 50 procurement contracts.
The complaint cited overpricing of as much as 700%, prearranged studies intended to inflate project size, and purchases of larger numbers of meters than required. Investigators found emails exchanged between company executives and municipal procurement officials discussing prices, bid amounts and technical specifications.
