The Ministry of Digital Governance has cancelled a tender for the installation of a network of 1,000 traffic cameras, following objections submitted by three companies on the terms of the deal.
The project, with a total cost of €88 million, received three preliminary appeals – from two companies and one consortium – before it even reached the stage of submitting offers.
Kathimerini understands that the ministry intends to review the terms of the tender by removing certain technical specifications and restart the process within the next 15 days.
A pilot program was launched late last year at eight high-risk locations in the greater Athens area, following recommendations by traffic police, marking the first deployment of artificial intelligence-based traffic cameras on the region’s road network. The cameras are owned and operated by the Digital Governance Ministry.
